Municipal Wine & Sake was established in 2014 by Matt Froude, a boutique wine and sake maker passionate about producing unique wine and sake that highlight variety, location and season. The production of high quality, elegant, varietal and food friendly wine and sake was Matt's inspiration to start his own label. Municipal is focused on Riesling, Savagnin and Tempranillo from exceptional cool climate vineyards that highlight varietal character as well as Aiyama (Love Mountain) Rice from Japan's best Rice Growing Region that produces delicate sake of the highest quality.

Riesling100% cool climate Riesling from high altitude granitic soils. 50 day fermentation in barrel with lees stirring twice weekly followed by aging on full solids to increase complexity and mouthfeel and add a creaminess to balance the acidity on the palate. Bottled unfined and unfiltered Review; From Strathbogie Ranges comes another interesting suite of wines from Municipal, one of my ‘under the radar but up in lights’ producers. So many good wines emerge from this project. There’s a kind of honeyed, toasty glow to the wine but still with freshness in reserve. Lemon curd, green apple crunch, sweet spices, a touch of straw, peanut brittle faintly in there. Lots of flavour, bright acid profile, general energy and deliciousness. Quietly complex is the gist.
